Health & Safety

The Royal Society for the Promotion of Health Fundamentals in Health & Safety Course

This course is a basic course covering the essentials of Health & Safety in a simple but interesting way, and it has been specially designed for personnel undertaking first-line duties. Trainees are not expected to have any previous knowledge or qualification in the subject. They should complete all units of the course and the examination in order to qualify for either the Certificate in Health & Safety at Work or for the written confirmation of attendance.

The course can be tailored to meet the needs of the organisation, so as to fit in with shift patterns, but normally it is run as a full day course. Where possible the course is organised “on-site'” so that real situations may be utilised. The requirement is nominally 9 hours, which includes the examination. The examination is in two parts a multi-choice 20-question paper, and hazard identification.

The Course is in 4 main sections:

  • Terms & Systems
  • General; costs & effects of Health & Safety
  • Definitions e.g. First Aid, hazard & risk assessment
  • Personnel & Systems
  • Hazards & Effects
  • Environmental
  • Equipment
  • Fire & Electricity
  • Safe Working Environment & Incidents
  • Legislation relating to H&S & COSHH

The standard fee per course is £425 with a discount for more than one course. There is an additional charge of £15 per trainee to cover, examination and marking, and the certificate. The normal maximum number of trainees per course is 15. There is available a Portuguese translator to help with the course, and Bilingual papers in Portuguese, Polish and French.
