This 18th Century house boasts some 5 acres of gardens and is modelled on those of Monserrate in Portugal, once part of the late Sir Francis Cook’s family estate.  The Avenue with its magnificent collection of magnolias leads to the lawned forecourt with a granite cider crusher fountain and sundial. Varied walkways wind alongside lawns and herbaceous borders to the lower garden with its lily ponds and woodland areas.

‘Domaine des Vaux’, La Rue de Bas, St Lawrence

Extended and developed by the present owner Marcus Binney CBE and his wife Anne, there are now some 20 vergees of gardens and woodland.  The main tiered garden beyond the terrace has a fountain with a boy on a dolphin and is planted with silver plants facing golf. The valley contains native and specie trees including Magnolias, Cercis, Parrotia persica, Eucalyptus and Cornus Kousa.

’Domaine des Vaux’ will be open on the afternoon of Sunday 18th April between 14:00 - 17:00, with all proceeds donated to JAYF Jersey Association of Youth & Friendship). Admission: £3.00.

'Rosel Manor', La Grande Route de Rozel, St Martin

There has been a garden at Rosel Manor since the 12th century when the Lemprière family bought the property in 1367. Apart from a small break the same family have continued to care for the garden and although many subsequent changes have taken place the original garden foundations remain. The garden was originally planned around the old Manor House and Chapel. In 1770 Charles Lemprière moved the house to a higher slope but left the garden, where it remains today. It is divided into three parts – the Chapel garden upper pond, the Palm garden and the lower pond and wild garden.

‘Rosel Manor’ opens on the afternoon of Sunday 25th April between 14:00 – 17:00 hrs, with all proceeds donated to St John’s Ambulance.  Admission: £3.00.

May

'Les Jardins', La Rue de la Haie du Puits, Grouville

An informal family garden which last opened over ten years ago , Les Jardins was laid out in the 1930s and benefits today from many mature trees and shrubs . Camellias, rhododendrons and magnolias flourish in natural and wild-life friendly woodland planting.

‘Les Jardin’ is open on the afternoon of Sunday 2nd May between 14:00-17:00 with all proceeds donated to JAYF (Jersey Association of Youth & Friendship).  Admission: £3.00.

Seafield House, La Route de St Aubin, Millbrook, St Lawrence

A large secluded garden with the original landscaped island flowerbeds, complimenting the formal Greek revival Regency villa, complete with rotunda, constructed in 1808 for Francis Giffard, a leading merchant, banker and smuggler, who bought up his children in fear of God and of the Customs man! Originally, the garden stretched down to the beach and the area was formerly sand dunes. Other interesting features are the use of Brazillian gneiss, brought back perhaps by ships engaged in the cod trade, for much of the flowerbed edging.  All in all, an intriguing hidden garden and house.

'Seafield House' is open on Sunday 9th May from 14:00 - 17:00 hrs with all proceeds donated to Autism Jersey.  Admission: £3.00

'Le Clos du Chemin’, Les Grupieaux, St Peter

This medium sized garden is situated on a windswept hillside overlooking St Aubin’s Bay. The present owner inherited a neglected garden in 1990 and together with her late husband set about re-designing and planting. There are approximately 20 different Magnolia trees, including two yellow ones and a mixture of both mature and young magnolias. A Beehive is situated in the middle of a small ‘wild’ patch where daffodils, bluebells and various wild flowers bloom in succession. The formal Italian Garden is designed for minimum upkeep.

‘Le Clos du Chemin’ is open on the afternoon of Sunday 16th May between 14:00 – 17:00, with all proceeds donated to Jersey Hospice Care. Admission: £3.00.

‘St Etienne’, Rue des Haies, Trinity

This garden is a natural garden with a valley, designed in keeping with the surrounding countryside.  It has been developed in part from an old trout farm so the ponds encourage indigenous wildlife, and shrubs and specimen trees are planted in beds in the meandering lawns.
