Tides
Jersey experiences some of the largest tidal ranges in the world, up to 12m. So when planning your cruise, tidal conditions must be taken into account. The Jersey Harbours web site will provide further details of tidal information.
The seashore is a unique environment consisting of a narrow stretch of land submerged twice daily by the tides. Jersey has the third largest tidal range in the world after the Bay of Fundy in Eastern Canada and the Severn Estuary.
Tides are the result of the gravitational pull of the sun and moon on the oceans. The highest and lowest tides occur approximately two days after the new and full moon. These tides, referred to as spring tides, take place around midday - very convenient for rock pool enthusiasts! Following spring tides, the tidal range decreases until approximately one week later when the smallest tidal ranges occur - neap tides. Be sure to check the local paper for times or high and low water before going out on the beach.

Jersey’s more southerly location and its protected position in the Bay of St. Malo result in an attractive, temperate climate offering more warmth and sunshine than can be found in the rest of the British Isles. The Jersey Met Office provides more detailed information on the island's weather.
