Bronze Award
The Bronze Award course is organised by Highlands College in partnership with the Jersey Tourist Guides Association and Jersey Tourism. It is aimed at members of the tourist industry, volunteer guides and islanders to improve their knowledge of the island’s culture, history, political and natural landscape and island attractions.
The course uses qualified tutors drawn from the ranks of the Blue Badge Guides as well as recognised island experts, and covers: tourism today; annual festivals and other tourist attractions; living in Jersey today; island personalities past and present; The Honorary Police system; States Chambers and the Royal Court; Jersey’s natural history and the environment; the town of St Helier and the island’s main heritage sites; research and presentation skills.
Certificates are awarded on successful completion of a presentation and an examination. The examination consists of approximately 120 local knowledge questions and all candidates will have to give a five minute presentation on a local topic that they have researched. (Candidates not wishing to take the examination will be given a ‘Certificate of Attendance’).
The last Bronze Award course took place in February, 2012, and comprised of five evening sessions from 19:00 – 21:30 (approx) at Highlands College and three Saturdays in the field from 10:00 – 16:30 (approx.). Group size is limited to 15 delegates and the course fee was £120.00. Future course dates have yet to be announced.

Relationship to other Awards
The Bronze Award sits happily between the Jersey Welcome Host scheme and the Blue Badge Award as it is more specialised in the fields of local knowledge than the Welcome Host scheme while at the same time sets less store on the organisation of tours than the Blue Badge scheme.
While recognising the importance of customer care skills, there is an assumption that candidates will have already taken courses in these. The depth and scope of local knowledge will not be to the same level as the Blue Badge Award.
