Swine Flu

Influenza A(H1N1) - Catch it. Bin it. Kill it.

Anyone with a fever (temperature 38 degrees or more) and flu symptoms (feeling cold and shivery, or hot; and usually a headache, sore throat, aches and pains, cough) should stay at home and call their GP for a home visit. The best way to be sure if you have a fever is to check with a thermometer at home. If you do not have one, now is a good time to buy one from a pharmacy.

The Flu helpline, which provides general information for the public, is open Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:30 and the number to call is +44 (0)1534 445566. Anyone needing medical advice will need to contact their GP.

  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, use a tissue when possible.
  • Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully.
  • Maintain good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to your face or to other people.
  • Clean hard surfaces (e.g. door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product.
  • Make sure your children follow this advice
