Britain in Bloom
Since it started back in 1963, Britain in Bloom has grown into the largest horticultural campaign in Europe. Every year, hundreds of communities all bring a great deal of horticultural skill and enthusiasm to one common aim: to regenerate local environments by the imaginative planting of trees and shrubs, flowers and landscaping and by dealing with local environmental issues.
Each region organises their own competition, the winners of which become finalists on a national level and are judged by RHS experts.
Speaking about Jersey, past comments from the judges have been:
‘An exceptionally high standard was demonstrated by the Grouville team. The level of community pride as well as the innovative and caring approach to the environment was an example for many to follow. All ages from within the community were involved, ranging from very young children to very senior citizens. Horticultural excellence was in evidence in the floral schemes, the residential gardens and permanent and sustainable plantings. Very well done; the judges really enjoyed their visit. Congratulations.’ (2007)
