Behind the Lens
The making of our “Meet the Locals" 2012 TV campaign.
With such a mild climate, Jersey Tourism’s TV commercial was filmed in September and October 2011.
The commercial was filmed across the Island, in a variety of locations over a period of 7 days, from dawn till dusk. From bobbing around in a boat at 6.30am waiting for daybreak alongside Mont Orgueil Castle, to filming the setting sun and surfers at St Ouen's Bay.
Jersey Tourism worked with a small crew, to stay flexible and to avoid having a huge convoy of vehicles moving around the Island.
It meant the crew could get down onto beaches, onto little boats and walk along cliff tops, but still get the scenes that were needed. We worked with real Jersey people, not models or actors and sometimes our demands were great.
A huge thanks must go out to them all, for their enthusiasm and giving Jersey Tourism their free time. The commercial set out to reveal both the warmth of the island and the warmth of the people who live here. This was achieved in an honest way, filming everyday life, seeing people doing what they do, in a beautiful landscape.
Nerina Pallot provides the TV commercial voiceover and the instrumental version of 'Butterfly' is taken from her latest album, 'Year of the Wolf'. A lasting memory was filming Nerina playing her guitar on St Ouen’s beach, as a huge golden sun slowly sank below the horizon.
