Freshwater Reservoir

Freshwater Fishing

Whilst there are no rivers in Jersey and scarcely any streams, there are stretches of still water that hold surprisingly good stocks of game and coarse fish.

The ‘Jersey Freshwater Angling Association’ welcomes visitors and considerate anglers to enjoy the fishing on offer in their waters.

Trout Fishing

Val de la Mare and Queens Valley are the two largest and most scenic reservoirs on the island situated in the west and east respectively. They are both ‘fly-fishing’ only waters, each well stocked with rainbow and brown trout every year. The season is from mid-April through to end-October. Day tickets cost approximately £25.00 or weekly tickets cost approximately £100.00. Some tuiton is also available.

Coarse Fishing

Coarse anglers visiting the island are able to fish at Dannemarche and Millbrook Reservoirs in Waterworks Valley located only 5 minutes drive from the town centre of St Helier, heading west.  Whilst there are no pike or other large predators, there is a good stock of the most common still water species namely, bream, tench, roach, perch, common and mirror carp, rudd and eels. Both reservoirs are equipped with comfortable fishing stages and toilet facilities. The season runs from 1st June to 31st March. Day tickets cost approximately £5.00 or weekly tickets cost approximately £25.00, however to enjoy other waters that the Association control, Overseas membership is available costing approximately £40.00

Both forms of freshwater angling are taken seriously on the island, the Jersey match team takes part in national and international competitions and local matches are also held regularly throughout the season.
