Since 1983, additional varieties of lavender have been added to the field stock and the acreage of lavender has doubled. The product range has expanded and the farm supplies numerous retail outlets on the Island.
Jersey Lavender is a family-run business. They grow, harvest and distil lavender to produce pure lavender essential oil. This lavender oil is the key ingredient in their range of toiletry and perfume products. Rosemary, eucalyptus, bay laurel and cypress are also grown and distilled on the farm and their oils are used in the same way.
The story of Jersey Lavender goes back to 1983 when Alastair Christie's (owner of the farm) parents inherited a disused dairy farm. Too young to retire, they wanted to bring the land back to life and, after extensive research, decided to grow lavender as an agricultural crop and to develop a business around it. The first 25,000 rooted cuttings - three varieties of Lavandula angustifolia - were carefully planted out in the fields later that year and Jersey Lavender was born.
