British Hobie Cat National Championships

Jersey is to stage the British Hobie Cat National Championships in August 2012.

Jersey is the 2012 venue for the Brewin Dolphin British Hobie Cat National Championships. Hosted by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, the event is being staged in the Island for the first time.

Three days of Open Championship racing, starting on August 23rd 2012, will take place in the beautiful location of St. Aubins bay where crews, including a strong representation from the Jersey and Guernsey (Channel Islands) Hobie Fleets, will race for trophies in the Hobie F18 class, Hobie 16’s and Junior Hobie Dragoons.

Hobie sailing is fast, spectacular and visually exciting; the sails will provide a vibrant blaze of colour across St. Aubin’s bay as the boats compete for places on the race course. A Coastal distance race is also planned as an added attraction for both competitors and spectators.

Jersey hosted The H16 European Championships in 1993 and 2000 and the Channel Islands Championships are run each year. The Championships are very much part of an on-going series and have a strong history in the Island. Hobie Cats are the largest catamaran of their type worldwide with Fleets continuing to grow all around the globe.

The event is being staged in Jersey for the first time and is being organised by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club and its Hobie Fleet. 2012 is the Clubs’ 150th Anniversary, an appropriate time for the Club to host such prestigious sailing Championships in a year where other events are being organised to celebrate the occasion. Brewin Dolphin are sponsoring the 2012 event having given excellent support to the Hobie Channel Islands Championships over the last four years.
