Bunker Archaeology 2020 Exhibition

St. Helier

About

A two-year project has been underway to help mark the momentous occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Jersey by bringing history to life through works of art.

The exhibition is the result of the fruitful collaboration between art, design and graphic design students from École Européenne Supérieure d'art de Bretagne (EESAB), which is the European Graduate Fine Art School of Brittany, and A Level Jersey photographic students from Hautlieu school.

It follows in-depth photographic research at the Société Jersiaise Photographic Archives, visits to German bunkers with the Channel Islands Occupation Society and support from Art House Jersey. First-hand accounts from Islanders experiencing the occupation of Nazi forces were also retold to students in the classroom in addition to making a series of portraits in the photographic studio. Everyday objects held in the collection at Jersey Heritage have also been photographed and students have produced an incredible array of creative and diverse photographic experiments.
