It’s important to remember that Jersey is part of the British Islands. So we do, on occasion, get a little rain! But you shouldn’t let that dampen your spirits, we’ve still got plenty for you to see and do.
1. Stop and smell the flowers
A unique centre dedicated to orchids and proud Chelsea Flower Show gold medallists, the Eric Young Orchid Foundation is the perfect all weather/all season attraction. Admire the sheer diversity of the most extravagant, and flamboyant, of all flowers in a purpose built display facility. Stroll through the beautiful gardens, enjoy a drink, or bring a picnic and relax. Born in 1911, Eric Young was one of the great orchidists of his time, and was widely respected and honoured throughout the international orchid community.
2. Get interactive and learn a little something
A visit to The Maritime Museum, located near Jersey’s marina, is a great way to spend a couple of nautical hours. You can see, touch, hear and even smell the exhibits! Listen to giant whelks tell fishy tales, learn how to design and float a ship, and let the museum really bring Jersey’s maritime past to life! Discover Jersey’s story at The Jersey Museum and Art Gallery, where you’ll explore its fascinating history, from the Ice Age to the German Occupation. You’ll also enjoy art exhibitions which change annually, and you may even learn a little Jèrriais (Jersey-French). Jersey Heritage announced that most of their fantastic sites will now be open year-round, so you’ll never miss the chance to learn about the island’s history.
3. Go underground
Discover a story you will never forget at the Jersey War Tunnels. Uncover the true story of life in Jersey during the Nazi occupation at the Jersey War Tunnels. Read about the hardship, the heartache and the heroism from those who were living it. An immersive experience best suited for slightly older children, aged seven and older. Why not experience a real-life adventure activity and take on one of their themed Escape Rooms; find clues, break codes, solve puzzles and earn your key to freedom.
4. Shopping galore
When the heavens open, don’t reach for a brolly – reach for your wallet. In St. Helier, rainy days are an invitation to indulge in retail therapy with a twist. Lose yourself in a labyrinth of cobbled lanes where local boutiques, quirky independents and elegant arcades spill over. Browse The Central Market, where the scent of fresh Jersey fudge mingles with handmade soaps and vintage treasures. Duck into chic department stores, then dry off with a frothy cappuccino or cheeky cocktail in a tucked-away café. In Jersey, even the rain knows how to sparkle.
