Natural optimists Gisela, Magnus, Stella and Leo Olsson and Skye the black labradoodle didn’t have to act too much to play this role, which involved chasing blue skies across the island of Jersey! Originally from Sweden, the Olssons have spent nearly 10 years in the island. Photographer Gisela Olsson is used to capturing special moments for her clients and their families in inspiring Jersey landscapes, but for once, the focus was on them.

Gisela explains: ‘As a family we are all about the small things in life, like a family walk in the sand dunes or an adventure discovering new things - why not?  The opportunity to be part of Visit Jersey’s film project fitted that bill perfectly. It instantly felt like it would be a family memory in the making.  It was about having the right attitude, it was a mini adventure and it got the whole family involved - even the dog!

‘One thing we always do when we have visitors is to take them down to St. Brelade’s beach for a walk, maybe some bodyboarding or simply a splash in the sea and then finish with breakfast, lunch or dinner at Wayside Café.  If our friends feel adventurous we often book a day coasteering with Jersey Adventures or kayaking with Jersey Kayak Adventures, it’s such a fun way to explore the island on the cliffs and in the sea.’

The constant trials and tribulations of daily life can knock the wind out of anyone’s sails, leaving even the sunniest disposition feeling overcast. Time away with the family gives you the chance to share in some good times, giving your loved ones plenty to smile about. No matter what mood you arrive in, it doesn’t take long for the simple pleasures of Jersey to brighten the moodand lift everyone’s spirits, giving you the time to appreciate the goodness in life and each other.

What better way to put a smile on your face than driving a classic car around the island? These vintage cars are ideal for seeing Jersey in style - and be prepared for smiles and waves from passers-by too. From a classic Mini or a Citroën 2CV to a soft-top MG Midget and an Austin Healey ‘Frog-eye’, discover island driving adventures that are guaranteed to make your holiday special.

Follow in the steps of the Olsson family and meet the local fishermen at this pretty fishing port and small beach. Make time to stop at the beach café here - as well as classic café dishes, they serve up an excellent menu of Thai food - often using freshly caught local fish.

From Jersey Royal potatoes to local pork pies and sausage rolls from farmer Jon Hackett, stop at a farm stall to buy some very local produce… often next to the field where it’s been grown or reared. Experience the island where it’s all about food metres not food miles and enjoy some unique local food experiences. Click the link below for four local favourite farm stalls.

Make like the locals - and our film cast - and set up your picnic blanket at Le Braye slip for an easy to access beach spot where you can admire the bay and watch the sun setting with Rocco Tower in the distance. Don’t forget to check the tide times - Jersey has some of the largest tides in the world, so make sure you choose a low tide to enjoy this spot at its best.

Make sure every member of the family has a great time in Jersey - even the four-legged ones. Dogs will love the pet-friendly Pontac House Hotel with its great location - literally a stone’s throw from the sea for bracing beach walks or head inland for leisurely strolls through Jersey’s green lanes.
