JAYF Open Garden – Les Aix

Les Aix is a charming Jersey granite house dating back to the 12th century, surrounded by extensive grounds and home to painting artist Ariel Whatmore. The driveway lined with oaks and underplanted with bulbs and wildflowers provides a delightfully informal approach to this beautiful traditional granite property. The garden surrounding the house has been sectioned into rooms, evoking changes in mood. The grey garden in the courtyard, the white garden flanking the west of the house and the red and foliage border at the rear. The magnificent maze of nearly a thousand box plants was grown from cuttings by the owner who is a true plants woman. It symbolise an artist’s palette containing five small circular gardens of different colours.
