More Information
Rozel may look like a quiet fishing harbour today, but for thousands of years its importance was more than suggested by its present appearance.
Marc reveals how geology, rising seas and early settlement are written into this corner of Jersey. Home to the Neolithic farmers who cleared woods to create fields around 6000 years ago, then to an Iron Age community that fortified Le Câtel de Rozel, it became the preferred landing place of the Dukes of Normandy.
By the 19th century, Rozel was bustling again, with soldiers, there to defend this gateway from French attack.
