More Information
After meeting under the Jersey Girl statue at Liberation Station, our stroll around St. Helier Harbour starts around The Albert Pier, where we hear about the main harbour. You will be presented with photographs illustrating what the area looked like in the late 1800s early 1900s. Jersey's shipbuilding tradition is described, recalling when several shipbuilding yards were present in St. Aubin's Bay. We move on to the New North Quay and its repurposed warehouses, which now house the Jersey Maritime Museum. We then meander around the Old Harbour, and we hear the story of the Ariadne, the first steam powered vessel that ran a regular route between Southampton and the Channel Islands. We then cover the English and French Harbours, and the various historical buildings. Our walk ends at historic South Pier, near St. Helier Yacht Club. Booking is strongly recommended.
