Battlefield Tour: Redcoats & Privateering

Jersey had been on the front line with France since 1204. Whilst initially it was a case of whether England or France would succeed in controlling the Channel Islands, by the 17th century the Islands were being used offensively during wartime as the base for privateers, who practised legalised piracy against Britain's enemies. Naturally those enemies didn't like it and sought to destroy that nest of vipers! During the American War of Independence, when France joined the American colonists, two French attacks were made on Jersey.
