Pirates, Smuggling, Religion & Privateering
Step back in time on a guided walk through the historic port village of St Aubin, once Jersey’s principal harbour and a place shaped by the sea, secrecy, and survival. Its narrow streets and harbour-side hide tales of pirates, smugglers, religion and the bold exploits of royal-sanctioned privateers who blurred the line between hero and outlaw.
Was this ever a sleepy port? As we wander through the old fishing village, you can decide for yourself.

More Information
Sheltered by the south-westerly headland and rocky northern promontory, St Aubin grew into a fiercely self-sufficient maritime community. Life here revolved around the sea, yet faith remained close at hand, with the several churches standing proudly near the harbour. Its narrow streets and harbourside lanes conceal stories of pirates and smugglers, religious influence, and the daring exploits of royal-sanctioned privateers who blurred the line between hero and outlaw.
Was St Aubin ever truly a sleepy port? As we wander through the old fishing village, you can decide for yourself. Along the way, you’ll discover hidden corners, unexpected landmarks, and compelling tales that bring this vivid seafaring past to life.
Join us as we explore St Aubin’s rich - and sometimes notorious - maritime history.
