Steep cliffs, clad in gorse and bracken, overlook perfect hidden bays and inlets, while an uninterrupted coast path climbs and dips, roller-coaster like, its entire length. Little wonder it’s where you’ll find some of the finest walking in Jersey.

The St Mary's loop

Distance:  6.5 miles / 10.4 km
Grade: Moderate

Despite appearances to the contrary St Mary is not the smallest of Jersey’s parishes by area, but due to its small size and rural nature, it’s by far one of the quietest. The north boundary is the sea, with magnificent wild cliffs, which are a riot of colour in spring and early summer. Explore the north coast cliff paths as well as dropping down to the 19th century Grève de Lecq Barracks, built at the height of fears of a Napoleonic invasion, these are the last remaining in Jersey.  Finish and start at St Mary's Country Inn for some well-earned refreshment – the pub has a reputation for excellent food and ale.

Sorel Point to Devil's Hole

Distance: 1.2 miles / 2 km

From the Northern tip of Sorel Point, join the cliff path heading west. Whether it is a misty autumn morning or a summery blue sky this is a fantastic way to discover what makes Jersey’s shoreline so special. The North coast is made up of high jagged cliffs, intersected by secluded coves and valleys, that have been eroded over millions of years. The cliff paths will take you deeper into Mourier Valley before arriving at Devil’s Hole. The Priory Inn is the perfect place to rest your feet and possibly grab a bite to eat or drink.

A circular walk from Bouley Bay

Distance: 3.8 Miles/ 6.1km
Grade: Moderate
Start & finish point: Bouley Bay
Pit stop: Mad Mary’s Café, Bouley Bay (open March – November)
Getting there: Bus 4

This is a great chance to explore the coast line between Bouley bay and Bonne Nuit as well as the lush surroundings of Egypt Woods. Very popular amongst locals, Eygpt woods and the surrounding areas are perfect for putting a smile on your face and freshness in your heart.

The northern loop

Distance: 14.8 Miles/ 23.8 km
Grade: Hard
Start & finish point: Anywhere along the route
Pit stop: The Priory Inn, Durrell Wildlife Park

Choose a challenging Jersey walk and take on the north coast cliff paths, it can be completed in either direction it's your choice.  Take in the stunning views from the north coast as well as the inland country lanes that zig zag their way through the heart of the island. Make sure you take plenty of refreshments to keep you going, although there are plenty of places to stop along the way and take a well-earned rest.

St. Johns to Sorel Point

Distance: 1.5 Miles/ 2 km
Grade: Easy

The perfect walk to discover the north coast of Jersey. Start at the parish church of St. John and march down La Route du Nord directly to the main coastal road. You will head west winding round the north coast headland with magnificent views and hidden caves only accessible by swimming or kayak. Follow signs for Sorel Point to the northern tip of the island and towards adjoining cliff paths for further adventure.

As one of the most rural of Jersey’s twelve parishes, Trinity is pretty and has a strong sense of community. This walk is just under 5 miles long and varies between lanes and cliff paths. Start at the local pub and sample some local beverages before embarking on your journey past the parish church and a number of characterful bays and caves: Giffard Bay, La Belle Hougue, Petit Port and Bouley Bay. Indulge in the beautiful scenery of cliffs and sea along the way before returning to your starting point.

Wander through sheltered lanes on this 6 mile walk through the parish of Trinity. With many places to stop along the way including:Durrell Wildlife Park, The Eric Young Orchid Foundation, Trinity Manor Farm, Howard Davis Farm and the States of Jersey Agricultural Centre. This inland walk is picturesque and provides a good insight into island life away from St. Helier.

Trinity Post Lunch Stroll

This walk is a perfect post-pub lunch activity – on country lanes far removed from the main road. Cross the flat agricultural land of Trinity before heading down to Grand Vaux. Don’t miss The Eric Young Orchid Foundation which contains one of the finest collections of orchids in the world and soak up the stunning country scenes whilst returning to your starting point.

Explore the north of Jersey between Bouley Bay and Sorel Point, taking in the unique views from the high cliffs of the north coast. An ideal walk for photographers who capture the secluded bays and caves along the coastline. Continue your excursion to the cliff paths around Egypt Woods which will take you back towards your starting point at the heart of this northern parish.

This walk crosses the border between the two central parishes of the north – St. John and St. Mary, reaching the most northern tip of the island, Sorel Point. Inhale the fresh air and awesome views of the north coast and wander towards the main village of St. Mary through to St. John. Passing St. John’s Church, and St. John’s Manor on the way before taking a pit stop at old school local pub, Les Fontaines Tavern.

Scenic National Trust Walk

Allow 45-50 minutes for this exhilarating cliff walk overlooking the sheltered and beautiful Bonne Nuit Bay inundated with wildlife to be discovered including a wide variety of butterflies such as the: Painted Lady, Clouded Yellow, Red Admiral, Common Blue and Green Hairstreak. Be prepared with suitable footwear as the terrain is tough in places and there are some very steep sections.

Tamba Park

Reconnect on this northern circular walk which strays away from the coast and twists through St. John amidst countryside, agricultural landscape and wildlife. A winner for families, this walk starts and finishes at one of Jersey’s leading family attractions – Tamba Park.

Jardin d’Olivet to Bouley Bay

Distance: 2 Miles/ 3.2 km
Grade: Moderate

For a secluded walk on the north coast, head to Jardin d’Olivet where this walk begins. A quiet area covered by a canopy of trees - a dog walker’s paradise surrounded by fields. You will start at the upper car park (10 minutes walk from the bus stop at the Trinity Arms Pub). Endeavour east along Jersey’s famous cliff path network until you reach L’Etcquerel Fort, a striking Jersey Heritage property available to rent all year round, before trekking west down further paths to the charming Bouley Bay.

Family Friendly Coastal Stroll

Distance: 2.8 Miles/ 4.5 km

Getting there: Bus 4

A short walk suitable for all the family, which drops down the cliff path steps to La Crête Fort and back up to Les Platons. This route will take one hour and is perfect for getting a feel for what the north coast is all about. Expect unforgettable views for your little ones to enjoy safely.

North half loop

Distance: 10.3 Miles/ 16.5 km

This route is half the circuit of the full northern loop. You will still take in the awesome sights of the north coast and visit the heart of the island through green lanes and hidden valleys. Take your time and saunter to some of the north coast bays, letting the glassy water and fresh air restore you.
