Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore were part of the Surrealist Movement in 1920s Paris . They had been romantic and creative partners for two decades before making Jersey their new home in 1937.
Claude (born Lucy Schwob) and Marcel (Suzanne Malherbe) both grew up in France when Anti-Semitism, and Fascism was on the rise throughout Europe. They became devoted anti-fascists, and used their writing and their art to challenge authority and conformity.
When the Nazis invaded and occupied Jersey in June 1940, they decided to stay and put their creative skills to good use to resist and confound the Nazis. They were eventually captured, found guilty and sentenced to death for their various 'crimes'.
The walk starts at the St. Brelade's Bay Hotel.
