La Fête dé Noué. La Fête dé …what..? Our mid-winter celebration derives its name from the local Jersey Norman-French language and translates as ‘The Christmas Festival’.
La Fête dé Noué is bursting full of events this year. Visitors and local residents can experience a local Christmas with craft markets, Christmas parades and festive entertainment and blow the blues away on a wonderful winter walk. The Island is ‘lit up’ with a full programme of activities arranged to complement the lead up to the festive period. Meander through the streets of St. Helier, under a canopy of brilliant white lights and experience late night shopping and street entertainment.

St Helier has an excellent shopping centre with pedestrian areas, alfresco cafés, bars, a good mix of well – known High Street stores and small local shops as well as Jersey’s very own department stores. Don’t miss the Victorian covered markets filled with a wealth of glorious goodies at this time of year; from holly wreaths and mistletoe to clementines, chestnuts and warming spices. The ‘Fish Market’ across the street from the ‘Central Market’, is filled with locally farmed and caught fruits of the sea. Both markets have colourful cafés where you can sit and breathe in the atmosphere of the market hustle and bustle.
During December most of St Helier’s shops will be open late on Thursday evenings and all day on Sundays, a rare occurrence in Jersey.
On Thursdays 5th, 12th, 19th many stores will close at 21:00, and on Sundays 1st, 8th, 15th shops will open between 10:00 – 17:00. On Sunday 22nd most will open until 18:00 while some shops will also be open until 19:00 every night from Monday 16th - Monday 23rd.
