History & heritage

Les Monts Grantez

Excavated in 1912, a Neolithic passage grave built around 4000 BC, originally known as Lé Cuex ès Faît’tchieaux, or place of the fairies. This intriguing site is a beautiful place to visit and reflect on life in Jersey in bygone times.

More Information

Today we refer to it as Les Monts Grantez, but there is certainly something a little mystical about the ancient site. In total eight skeletons were found here accompanied by limpet shells, bones of cattle, deer, horse, pig and goat and small piles of brightly coloured pebbles. Other finds included a variety of pottery, including a miniature cup and shallow saucer, stone implements, part of a spindle and hand tools.
