Overview.
We hope you’ve packed your swimmers because you’ll spend your first day sampling the best of Jersey’s watersports. Start by scrambling around the rocks from St. Brelade’s Bay before (hopefully) catching some waves at one of Europe’s most famous surfing beaches. Finish your day watching the sunset from an iconic island drinking spot.
Stops: Three.
1. Throw yourself into it.
There’s no better way to start your weekend by the sea than by throwing yourself into it, so take a coasteering tour with Absolute Adventures. Experience a fusion of rock climbing, scrambling, swimming and cliff jumping and appreciate Jersey’s coastline and wildlife from a very unique vantage point. You might even make it all the way around to Beauport Bay, the jewel in the crown of Jersey’s south coast, nestled between granite cliffs on three sides. Once your adrenaline-fueled adventure is over and you’ve dried off, head to Crab Shack on the promenade and enjoy a relaxed lunch with spectacular panoramic views.
2. Discover Jersey’s southwest corner.
After lunch, follow the footpath from St. Brelade’s Bay to Corbière Lighthouse. The spectacular walk passes over the top of Beauport Bay, giving you a different perspective on where you were swimming just a few hours earlier. Keep the sea on your left and follow the path for roughly 90 minutes until you see the lighthouse. Once you get to Corbière, stop for a well-earned ice cream break.
3. Surf's up, sun's down.
It’s now late afternoon, so make your way to St. Ouen’s Bay, one of the best surfing beaches in the British Isles, and conveniently, the perfect place to watch the sunset in Jersey. The golden sand beach spans the entire west coast of the island and is beloved by beginners, die-hard surfers and spectators, too. The beach is dotted with surf schools and hire shops, so no need to worry about knowing where to go. Once you’ve hung ten with the locals (or maybe just watched from the railings) you’ll definitely deserve a sundowner. Refuel with fish and chips at Le Braye Bistro then head to the terrace at The Watersplash Beach Bar and Diner – or The Splash as it’s affectionately known – for one of their famous sunset sessions.
Go off the beaten track.
Overview
Start your day with a wild walk along the clifftops of the north coast before catching a RIB ride to one of Jersey’s prettiest offshore reefs. There’s a good chance you’ll be the only people there. Once you’re back on dry land, you can end your weekend with a steaming pot of moules as you watch the sun go down and listen to the waves lap at the harbour wall. Dreamy.
Stops: Three.
1. North coast walk.
You’ll discover some of the best walking routes in Jersey on the north coast – steep cliffs, clad in gorse and bracken, overlook perfect hidden bays and inlets, while an uninterrupted coastal path climbs and dips the length of the island. Start at Bouley Bay and follow the coastal footpath to St. Catherine’s. Just keep the sea on your left and you can’t go far wrong. Stop for a dip at Rozel, one of the island’s prettiest harbours. And what would a dip in the sea be without a bite to eat after? (Pointless, that’s what.) So grab a table on the pier and tuck into a bacon and egg roll from The Hungry Man that will keep you going until you reach the island’s northeast corner.
2. Explore the archipelago.
From St. Catherine’s breakwater, embark on a thrilling 15-minute RIB trip to Les Ecréhous – a network of islands and reefs lying 6 miles off the coast of Jersey and 8 miles from France. You’ll be dropped off on the shingle bank and left to explore so it’s a good idea to pack a picnic. Watch Atlantic grey seals wallowing on the rocks and get your binoculars out to try and spot some bottlenose dolphins. Make sure to book in advance as the trips are very popular.
3. Enjoy dinner by the sea
Once you’re back on dry land, hop on the bus to Gorey Village. The relaxed fishing village is circled by pastel-coloured cottages and alfresco restaurants, all overlooked by the spectacular Mont Orgueil castle and is the perfect place to finish your weekend. Grab a seat outside the Dolphin or The Moornings and tuck into some dinner as the sun goes down.
